Framework Convention for the Development of Studies and Research in International Law

Within the framework agreement, the professors and researchers of the Institute of International Law are called upon to draw up written and oral opinions on topical issues relevant to the institutional activity of the Diplomatic and Treaty Litigation Service. The aim of the opinions is to put the members of the Service - Plenipotentiary Ministers, Embassy Counsellors and Delegation Counsellors - in a position to take care of Italy's national interests and rights in its diplomatic relations with foreign countries and international organizations, having framed and examined in depth the legal problems raised by such relations. Among the areas most affected by the activities of the lecturers of the Institute of International Law are those of the repression of crimes committed in Syria and Ukraine and Italy's fulfilment of its obligations under the Montego Bay Convention on the Law of the Sea.
